The Western Bay of Plenty covers 208,472 hectares, stretching approximately 90 kilometres along the coastline from Waihi in the north to Te Puke in the south and about 32 kilometres inland to the rugged, bush covered Kaimai Ranges. The landscape of Tauranga is dominated by two key features: the harbour and the 232 metre high Mount Maunganui (Mauao) where one of New Zealand's most popular beaches is found.
Te Puke, the Kiwifruit Capital of the World is a picturesque community town located 20 km southeast of Tauranga City and has a warm temperate climate. It receives between 2,200 and 2,400 hours of sunshine per year, making it one of the sunniest places in New Zealand. Summer daytime temperatures average 22-24 degrees Celsius (70-75, Fahrenheit) and in winter 16-18 degrees Celsius (60-65, Fahrenheit). The average annual rainfall is 1,198 mm, falling below the national average of approximately 1,400 mm per annum. The Pikowai area is a growing lifestyle location. Surrounded by Dairy farms, sheep and beef and lifestyle properties. Just off shore there can be found some great spots for diving and fishing for some of the Bays best snapper and crayfish.
